Welcome to our Christmas newsletter…

Wow, we have a lot to share!

First, we are delighted to launch our new website www.6PointsChallenges.com – we partnered with a brilliant Leeds based agency, Motion 12 and couldn’t be more delighted with the results. A big thanks to Sam, Kate and team – please see the story below for more info, check out the site and let us know what you think.

We have also produced a new, very emotive video https://6pointschallenges.com/6points-charities that explains what our charities do and the benefits they see from all the incredible donations we receive from our donors and riders. A big thank you to two of our 6Points riders and Ambassadors, Karyn and Tony, who created the film with Benny doing the video production. If you can share on your social channels to help showcase the great work our charities do, it would be much appreciated.

And then there was 6Points Tenerife – what an experience for all those riders that joined this challenging, but fun ride in September. Nothing is flat – it is either up or down.  An incredible island with vistas that range from the most amazing volcanic terrain to lush coastal vegetation. Read all about it and our final day (46.7 km, 2315 metres climbing up Mount Teide – putting this in perspective, the revered Sa Calobra is 9.5 kms and 670 metres).  It was totally amazing, and we’d like to thank Jesper of @bikeguidetenerife for his amazing route and guidance, as well as a special shout out to Craig, who travelled from the US to ride 6Points Tenerife and for writing the below article.

We are well underway with preparations for Reverence Hotels 6Points Mallorca in May 2025 and are delighted Reverence Hotels has re-committed to be our Title Donor and Partner for the sixth time! Registration is open and it’s filling up fast – so register today at 6Points Mallorca Registration. All of us at 6Points, Reverence Hotels and Calvia are looking forward to welcoming you.

Enjoy the festive season and make sure to start training for 6Points Mallorca in early 2025 if you haven’t already.

All the best for a happy and healthy 2025.

Team 6Points Committee

6Points launches its new website

After months in planning, 6Points is excited to launch its new website www.6PointsChallenges.com and we can’t wait to hear what you think, as well as get your feedback! It features a fantastic new film of the ride, details of the incredible charities we support (Asdica, SOS Animal and Shambhala), new functionality to register for future rides, as well as helpful training tips, celebrates our wonderful donors, sponsors and partners, and provides details of our hardworking Committee, without whom none of this would be possible.

Bryan, our Committee Chair, commented “this has been a while in the making and I couldn’t be more delighted with the outcome – it captures and showcases the fun and challenges of our rides, the stunning scenery and the camaraderie. I’d like to say a big thank you to Sam, Kate and team at Motion 12 who have done an incredible job creatively and technically bringing our vision to life”.

If you have friends or family who need a little persuading to sign up for Mallorca 2025, please send them the new website link and hopefully it will help convince them to join us for a ride they’ll remember forever!

Riding 6Points Tenerife.

In late September, I was one of a group of 6Points die-hards participating in the first 6Points Tenerife event, which was led by local guide Jesper Koldby@bikeridetenerife (also an Everesting participant at 6Points Mallorca 2024).

Friday (Day 1, 130km, 2350m). Jesper and Alec started at our hotel near El Medano, on the dry southern side of the island, with the rest of us following by car. A wise choice, perhaps, as the route quickly hit a 10km climb up to Granadilla at 650m. From there, we followed the TF-28 highway, a lightly trafficked and spectacular road that winds through rugged terrain on the lower slopes of El Teide. We then dropped down into bustling Guimar for coffee and a tasty snack. The table next to us was soon occupied by pros Jasper Philipsen and Jordi Meeus.

At this point, Bryan, Philip, and I joined the ride, continuing along the TF-28 highway and catching views of Gran Canaria. Next stop was the attractive old town center of La Laguna. We were now on the lush north side of the island and nearing the finish. There were still challenges to come, however, and on one very steep ramp I hit my limit, walked, and, being wary of the red fog, hung up my bike! The others continued and soon we found ourselves in Puerto de la Cruz, our home for the next two stages.

Saturday (Day 2, 47km, 1130m). Joined by Michelle and Thomas, we climbed through the upper reaches of Puerto de la Cruz, stopping for the incredible views over the city at Miradors El Lance and La Corona, where we saw paragliders run off the edge of the cliff and soar into the mist. From there we rolled downward, eventually tucking into massive helpings of local fare at Casa San Antonio. With lunch weighing us down, we descended and then passed through the old streets in La Oratava. After one sharp, cobbled ramp, it was all downhill to the hotel and a well-earned siesta.

Sunday (Day 3, 95km, 2500m). At 8.30am on a gloriously sunny but still cool day we set off on the queen stage of our adventure. The climbing began almost immediately, and we were suitably warmed up when we reached Mirador de Humboldt (7km) and enjoyed the view. After a brief respite, the climbing began in earnest, averaging 6% up to our first stop: Los Andes in Aguamansa (21km). Refreshed, we spent another hour and a half at 6%, passing through a beautiful pine forest, and catching occasional glimpses of El Teide. After another quick coffee stop at El Portillo (38km), we set off for the finish. We soon entered the caldera of the volcano, a barren ash and scrub landscape littered with boulders of every size. A relatively easy ride, at an average 3%, led to the sharp ramp at the cable car station that lies at the base of the volcanic cone (49km).

Feeling chuffed, after everyone arrived, we quickly turned around and headed to a feast at Papillon. Aided by ample helpings of huevos rotos, we descended through cool misty clouds that had settled in on the hillside. Despite holding everyone else up with my nervous braking, we were all back at the hotel by 4.30pm in a celebratory mood.

This adventure was full of the usual things that make 6Points special: great cycling, amazing scenery, lots of laughs, lots of support from each other and our crew (in this case Nicky), and plenty of time to eat well and enjoy some bubbly beverages. A special thanks to Jesper, Thomas, and Michelle for their local hospitality!

Getting to know our wonderful 6Points charities.

So, it was just 2 months ago that I was asked whether I might like to take on the role of Charity Liaison Officer for 6Points. The goal was to build stronger relationships between the charities and the 6Points family, as many of us have been involved with 6Points rides but know very little about the amazing work of the charities we support.

Within a week, there were all sorts of plans afoot. Flights were booked and we were off to our favourite island, with appointments arranged by Bryan with all three charities that 6Points supports: Asdica, Shambala and SOS Animal, Mallorca.

We had the privilege of spending time with each charity and frankly were blown away by each conversation, talking to the people who dedicate their lives to these charities. We’re excited to share the first in a series of videos https://6pointschallenges.com/app/uploads/2024/12/6-points-charity_newest.mp4 – a compilation video showcasing all the great work of the three charities. Please share the video on your social channels to help spread the word and encourage donations to 6Points.  Following this first compilation film, we’ll have three individual films coming soon too.

We hope that these videos will be your secret weapons to encourage donations for the 2025 6Points rides. 250 is the minimum donation required for Reverence Hotels 6Points Mallorca but it’s not the target. We hope these videos will help raise even more donations in 2025.

What a fabulous 6Points Charity Fun ride.

We were lucky enough to have a perfectly beautiful late autumn day for the 6Points November Fun Charity Ride on 23 November. And what a wonderful turnout – 35 riders, 10 of whom are new to 6Points. Welcome to the 6Points family.

We met at Cafe Comerz in Santa Maria and rode 67 km of carefully curated roads from Santa Maria to Alaro and then down Cami de Muro to Llubi for a coffee stop. After coffee and cakes, we then went through the beautiful backroads past farms and vineyards back to Santa Maria. Our sincere thanks to John Mc for planning the routes and arranging lunch.

We then enjoyed a fabulous lunch at our favourite Santa Maria restaurant, Sa Sini. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/p17buyEJnGomAuou5…). Great food and good, friendly service topped by the most magnificent choice of tarts, cakes and cheesecakes for dessert.

On top of a wonderful ride, it was an excellent fundraising event for one of our three charities SOS Animal Mallorca. We were pleased to deliver a whopping €500 to Maxi at SOS Animal the following Tuesday.

And, of course, our thanks go to all the riders for their generosity.
